A variety of studies have documented relationships between OO metrics and managerial-performance variables including effort, reusability, defects and faults, maintainability, and cost savings. Researchers and practitioners around the world have used the authors' metrics suite and its variants in diverse OO software settings. This article discusses some of these uses and what we can learn from them. It also provides a list of commercial tools for automatically collecting some or all of these metrics.
