Abstract

Several important data manipulation issues of statistical databases are discussed with respect to their treatment and implementation in SAS. The issues are: why aren't conventional database management systems used for statistical data; what data manipulation capabilities are important and which have been incorporated into SAS; what are the strengths and weaknesses of SAS with regard to data manipulation; how does SAS store data manipulation metadata and how can users extract this metadata; what data manipulation capabilities of SAS are particularly noteworthy.
