How elaborate should the functionality, date types, and data models of a statistical database management system be? In this paper we consider several criteria to be used in deciding tke matter: efficiency, data semantics, standardization, integrity, security, and useability. on the basis of these cirteria we construct a taxonomy of proposals for enhanced fuoctionality of statistical database management systems.
