Abstract

Cross-team development issues that need special coordination and close attention can be managed successfully by using the concept of "Open Spaces". During our 5.0 development cycle, which is being executed by ten teams in 18 sprints, we use open spaces to identify and evolve critical cross team issues. A concept we wish to emphasize during this development cycle is that of self managed teams. The open space is a powerful tool to help establish that concept. As with other new agile tools, adaptation began slowly, but once developers realized that the decision-making power belongs to the open space participants, the popularity of this tool increased.
