Abstract

In this paper we illustrate the "Traveling Café" that provides opportunities for informal communication by encouraging people to serve coffee to each other. This system consists of "sensor-equipped coasters," "a coffee pot with a supersonic wave oscillator," and "an LCD monitor and a light to display user situations." For two weeks we conducted pilot experiments to evaluate the system's effects and found that it triggered communication even in partitioned offices.
