Abstract

Parameter design is an off-line quality engineering technique, where the parameters for a process or product are determined, so that the effect of noise on the response of the process, or the function of the product is minimized. An approach to parameter design, called the Taguchi Methods, helps improve quality without increasing the cost, through experimentation. A tool, IPAD (Intelligent Parameter Design) has been developed to automate parameter design. Such tools should aid industry in developing a product or process of higher quality, or improving an existing one. This paper focuses on TAG, an embedded expert system that designs experiments using the Taguchi Methods.
