This paper studies the performance of a traffic-aware dynamic spectrum allocation technique in multi-vendor environments. The study is performed for hybrid Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA)/Multi-Carrier Code Division MA (MC-CDMA) systems. FDMA/MC-CDMA supports subcarrier clustering which enhances MC-CDMA potential for dynamic spectrum allocation. A Spectrum Allocation Server (SAS) in the MAC layer controls the process of spectrum allocation. A traffic-aware spectrum sharing algorithm is introduced for the SAS which is called smart spectrum allocation. Smart spectrum allocation highly enhances the spectrum allocation performance in terms of blocking rate, spectral occupancy and revenue.
