Abstract

This paper proposes new algorithms for the duty cycle measurement of a digital pulse train signal, by exploiting a random sampling technique. All the proposed solutions are low complex algorithms and of easily implementation, also in very busy and low resources microcontrollers. The behavior of the algorithms has been studied by means of simulations. The obtained results show a fast convergence to the duty cycle value: in particular, a considerable gain in terms of mean number of samples necessary to evaluate the duty cycle with a desired accuracy is obtained thanks to one of the proposed algorithms, with respect to other solutions based on random sampling technique.
