Over the recent years, the number of communication applications available has greatly increased. However, functional redundancies and incompatibilities have made the use of these applications more and more cumbersome. In this paper, we present Circa, a software infrastructure designed for personal communication with close relations by way of groups. Circa provides users with a simple and unique interface to manage groups of individuals, independently from applications. Circa also facilitates the implementation of communication applications by taking care of the low-level details related to data transmission and storage.
