Abstract

In this paper we present behavior patterns which were observed in the course of programming in C++ language, that was taught in the winter semester of 2005/2006. Approximately 400 students passed this course. The course was divided into chapters with a mandatory test at the end. Three behavior patterns were observed in the data representing users progress in individual chapters: sequence pattern, skipping pattern and condition-first pattern. The observed patterns and statistical evaluation of their usage will used to verification, altering and extension of the course. Further extension of the concept definition by semantic metadata can be used to improve the presented patterns and to abandoning the sequential and hierarchical structure of the course.
