Abstract

This paper presents the design and application of a simplified gesture interface for spherical user interaction in the virtual environment. The interface is implemented using a tilt, a electric compass, and three flex sensors. It measures eight directional hand movements and four finger gestures. Using this interface, a user can perform spherical manipulation such as rotating a sphere full of thumbnail images, pointing and selecting a thumbnail image, and releasing to put it back on the sphere.
