Abstract

Within the scope of the European research and education network project GÉANT2, including a framework for performance measurements, the need for statistical analysis and interpretation of network performance metrics has to be satisfied. Following the IETF approach, a measurement system for metrics as One-Way-Delay (OWD), OWD-Variation (OWDV) and Packet Loss (PL) was developed by the WiN-Labor group of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg for the German National Research and Educational Network G-WiN. Starting from the experiences made in the G-WiN, IP performance metrics under laboratory and real world conditions are examined to analyze and interpret the measured real time data.
