The availability of testing infrastructure is a major factor in product development projectcosts. Software virtualization is a powerful mechanism for simulating a test setup on a few desktopsthat would otherwise require "real" equipment. It has shown a savings of about 30 percent of overallproduct development costs by executing 80 percent of unit testing and 25 percent of grey- andblack-box testing in the desktop environment. Both open source and commercial products are availableto support it.
