Many experts in software engineering agree that the emerging iterative requirements engineering, software engineering and software design methodologies present excellent ways to identify and validate user requirements. These methodologies often include innovative techniques for elicitation and validation of user requirements including various forms of human engineering analysis, rapid prototyping, and knowledge acquisition tasks. This paper addresses the compatibility of these techniques with DoD-Std-2167A. Assessment is made regarding the compatibility of the standard with innovative requirements techniques, and how and where these techniques may be inserted into the life cycle.
