Abstract

We propose a method for applying swarm theory to medical image analysis [1]. A framework for designing and applying swarms to image data has been developed, and the method has been applied to three diverse types of medical image data. In the examples nature serves as the inspiration for the swarms with agents consisting of termites, bloodhounds and children playing. Supplying the agents with simple means of sensing the world and communicating with neighboring agents, they form emergent behaviors and structures that can function as flexible models.
