Abstract

In this study, the motion estimation procedure is observed in view of a frame. In the thousands of blocks in a frame, some blocks can be well predicted using the motion estimation scheme, but some blocks can not. As considering the time efficiency, a good threshold can determine the most important portion of the computation in the motion estimation procedure for a frame. Based on the observation, two algorithms using the measurement of sum absolute difference (SAD) as the threshold to select the effective blocks for the motion estimation are proposed. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithms can reduce the run-time into 30% to 40% with only about 5% mean square error(MSE) increased.
