Successful technology transfer requires close cooperation and collaboration between researchers and practitioners. Researchers need to observe the challenges facing industry firsthand and tailor their work accordingly. Practitioners can help shape technology development on the basis of tangible issues identified on site. This article presents a seven-step technology transfer model that reflects collaborations between university researchers and practitioners at two Swedish companies. The authors discuss key lessons learned for each of these seven steps.
