Abstract

The estimation of wave parameters using polarization sensitive arrays is addressed. Diversely polarized antennas are used, e.g. in radar and communication systems. A seismic application is presented. The wave parameters are estimated using a broadband maximum likelihood estimation procedure. To determine the maximum likelihood estimates, a complicated optimization problem has to be solved. The genetic algorithm and the EM algorithm are used to overcome this difficulty. Finally the application of the algorithm to real seismic data is studied.
