Abstract

The optical retrieval and storage technique called VisualAudio provides a way to extract sound information from an analog disc without any mechanical contact. This paper presents the signal processing aspects and in particular a signal-to-noise ratio analysis of this optical retrieval process, in order to determine its feasibility and the resolution constraints of such a system. A working prototype has been built and has retrieved the sound from several records.
