Security issues are becoming increasingly important due to market forces and recent legislation. Traditional techniques of teaching beginning programming leave students with dangerous habits, viewing security as an optional, add-on requirement. Incorporating a suite of security principles into first year textbooks would improve overall code security and prepare students better for their careers.
