Abstract

SIP can provide realtime communications as a networkservice.Communications systems based on the SIP (Session InitiationProtocol) standard have come a long way over the past severalyears. SIP is now largely complete and covers even advancedtelephony and multimedia features and feature interactions.Interoperability between solutions from different vendors isrepeatedly demonstrated at events such as the SIPit(interoperability test) meetings organized by the SIP Forum, andseveral manufacturers have proven that proprietary extensions tothe standard are no longer driven by technical needs but rather bycommercial considerations.
