Abstract

This paper explores what factors students believe important to measuring the success of professional software development projects. We surveyed sophomore and senior computer science and computer information systems (business degree) majors. While some differences of opinions were revealed, there was surprising commonality between the groups. Little change of opinion was observed between the sophomores and seniors. This paper first describes the differing views of what constitutes success in a software development project. Results of recently published surveys of professional developers are then summarized. The authors' student survey is then presented and analyses of results are discussed.
