This paper proposes a new fuzzy relaxation scheme for image contrast enhancement, which has desirable convergence properties of relaxation operations on both fuzzy domain and image spatial domain. Furthermore, in order to measure the quality of an enhanced image, an index of fuzziness is presented in this paper to evaluate the performance of the fuzzy relaxation scheme, which is used as a criterion for automatically stopping the relaxation process. Experimental results have shown the validity of the proposed fuzzy relaxation algorithm.
