We use a discontinuous spectral element method for the study of optical coupling via whispering gallery modes between two size mismatched dielectric microresonators, the building block of coupled resonator optical waveguides, and light propagation through chains of size mismatched dielectric microresonators. It is shown that such optical coupling does not depend monotonically on the size dispersion, and on the other hand, such light propagation is highly sensitive to the size dispersion in the coupled resonator optical waveguides.
