Abstract

Knowledge-based systems methods have been seen as means of enhancing the nature of support provided by Decision Support Systems. This paper examines how they can be similarly used to provide user guidance and to represent forms of knowledge that are relevant to the newer type of qualitative support systems called Idea Processing. Basic concepts of Idea Processing and Knowledge-based systems are summarized. The paper identifies several modes of knowledge representation appropriate for particular functions of Idea Processing.
