Abstract

A QoS Guaranteed Cross-layer Scheduling Algorithm (QGCSA) is developed for real-time applications in wireless networks, which traverses heterogeneous networks with strict QoS requirements. QGCSA combines Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) and Selective Repeat-Automatic Repeat Request (SR-ARQ) with packet scheduling, and satisfies with packet error rate (PER) as well as delay constrains. We evaluate the performance of QGCSA in three metrics, including system packets Time-Out Rate (TOR), average system effective throughput and fairness. Simulation results show that QGCSA outperforms the Modified Proportional Fair (MPF) algorithm, the Earliest Deadline First (EDF) algorithm and the Modified Largest Weighted Delay First (M-LWDF) considering all QoS requirements involved of real-time applications. Furthermore, we also examine the stability of QGCSA, which performs same as MPF, EDF and M-LWDF algorithms.
