Abstract

The field of Evolutionary Computation (EC) has been around for several decades [2, 3], and in recent years there has been an explosion not only in the different types of biologically inspired algorithms, but also in the number of practitioners in the field. A critical part of this growth and development of the EC field has been the technology transfer of EC from academia to industry and the successful application of EC techniques to real-world problems. To assist in the continued technology transfer of EC techniques from academia to industry we conducted a survey of EC practitioners working in both academia and industry and in this article we summarize some of our findings.
