Abstract

This paper focuses on the problem-solving task of Automated Manufacturing Systems (AMSs) modeling. A comprehensive modeling methodology is being developed for AMSs modeling in order to conduct their failure analysis. For this purpose, we consider the IDEF0, a top-down method based on a graphical language and providing a systematic functional description of a considered AMS. To capture the functionalities of an AMS, we propose a set of Generic Functions (GFs). To integrate the concept of GFs and IDEF0, the latter was tailored based on the Coad and Yourdon method of Object-Oriented Analysis (OOA) resulting in a new modeling tool called O2IDEF0. Emphasis is then placed on the discussion and presentation of a structuro-functional methodology based on O2IDEF0. Finally, an illustrative industrial case study is provided.
