Abstract

Channel throughput of multiple access system with RAKE receiver and hybrid ARQ in wireless networks with imperfect channel estimation is considered. In this paper, general multi-path intensity Nakagami fading and multiple-access near/far interference channel are assumed. A dedicated pilot channel for coherent demodulation is used for the purpose of channel estimation in wireless fading channel. Pilot channel estimation error, due to multiple-access interference and multi-path fading is studied. The analysis for system performance shows that the error of channel estimation significantly degrades throughput performance and can be effectively suppressed by Rake receiver and hybrid ARQ scheme. Also, an attempt for comparing the system throughput on different performance improvement schemes and parameters has been made. In particular, the channel throughput of multiple access BCH coded system is compared with uncoded system. From the results, we can say that the proposed multiple access system with hybrid ARQ gives good performance and can be used very efficiently for packet transmission in wireless networks.
