In embedded real-time systems, it is important to reduce energy consumption in order to achieve efficient energy utilization. Many investigations have focused on Quality of Service (QoS) control, which adapts the resource consumption of task execution by adapting the QoS of the tasks. In our past work, fairness of QoS has been focused on in the QoS adaptation control methods we have proposed. In this paper, a CPU clock cycle and frequency allocation problem, whose objectives are to minimize the energy consumption for task execution and to maximize the QoS while guaranteeing fairness of QoS, is formulated as a multiobjective optimization problem. We also propose to obtain a Pareto-optimal solution of the problem by using the weighted-sum optimization method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
