Abstract

Satellite-based WCDMA systems have been proposed recently for commercial and military applications [1, 2]. In this paper we present an analytical expression for the pole capacity of geosynchronous satellite based WCDMA networks and identify the important factors such as dynamic traffic, fade margin, beam forming, and power control that influence the uplink capacity of satellite based WCDMA networks. We do not address the downlink capacity in this paper since uplink capacity is often the limiting factor on the overall capacity of these networks
