Abstract

This paper examines the discourse around virtuality and immersion within media and its sites of influence: the internet, mobility, wireless-ness, connectivity, and work, from a cyberanthropological perspective. The concept of the information chain is introduced in relation to audience reception and the notion of "audience" is explored in light of current technology shifts. At no other time in history have human beings accelerated the adoption of communication technologies with such ease. How does this affect the traditional communication model? Can we keep pace with this process and where might it lead us? Cyberception and emersivity are manifestations of the evolving digital mobile lifestyle that will be the harbinger of the global "digisphere". A new generation of "audience" is emerging who not only "consume" communication, but will begin to re-focus it as re-creator and re-distributor of it, totally mobile all the while.
