In this paper, we present the challenges of supporting real-time applications in IEEE802.11 infrastructure-based wireless mesh networks and propose a novel bandwidth management scheme in order to ensure the quality of service of real-time applications. The scheme is composed of four key modules: 1) admission control module for regulating the load of real-time traffic; 2) rate control module for reducing the impact of best-effort traffic; 3) available link bandwidth estimation module for calculating the link bandwidth for admission control and rate control; 4) a bandwidth reserved mechanism for supporting mobile user's real-time applications. To evaluate the efficiency of our scheme, we conduct simulations using network simulator NS2. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.
