Abstract

This paper describes experiences with theM-Spaces location model in real spaces. To demonstrate the utility and effectiveness of the model, we constructed location/user-dependent audio-guide systems for museums based on the model. These systems are already being operated in several museums, e.g., the National Science Museum (Tokyo) and the Museum of Nature and Human Activities (Hyogo) in addition to an elementary school. By using active RFID technology, they can track the positions of visitors and provide audio-based annotations about the exhibitions in front of them, where these annotations can be adapted to their interests and knowledge.
