Abstract

This paper presents a multi-layered interaction architecture for elderly companion robot which has the functions of conversation, emotional reaction, musical enrichments and monitoring. It has a three-layer configuration: proactive process layer, interactive controlling layer and behavior generating and outputting layer. The behavior reaction mode provides rapid response and real-time interaction in the proactive process layer and behavior generating and outputting layer. The evolutional control mode in the interactive controlling layer provides a good foundation for potential learning and adaptation during the interaction process. The experiments in a nursing center demonstrate and examine some features of this multi-layered interaction architecture of the companion robot for aged people.
