Abstract

The aesthetic of using the human body as a living screen to project video, motion graphics, or animation is being explored by various artists worldwide. In the modern society of mass media and computerization, increasingly more dance productions are using modern technology to merge the digital image with the live performer. This article will connect the synchronization of motion graphics and human movement with the ritualistic markings of the body, thus forming a new type of expression in contemporary dance. Case studies of performances and interviews with choreog-raphers, dancers, and animators will demonstrate how projection is being integrated to form a synchronized hybrid between the human bodyand digitally mediated technology.
