Abstract

For an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, frame synchronization is achieved by forcing the receiver to start its FFT at the right time. One way in which this may be achieved is to precede the OFDM data with a special synchronization symbol. In this paper two synchronization symbols are proposed to achieve frame synchronization for an OFDM-based indoor wireless data transmission system, the wobbulation symbol and the Barker code. The performance of these two synchronization symbols has been analyzed and compared, under the influence of an AWGN and two-ray multipath channels, in terms of the probability of correct synchronization.
