We investigate the utility of automated digital photo retrieval using faceboxes . The sizes and locations of faces in each photo are automatically detected and embedded within the image file. An interactive user interface allows querying for photos visually, in a simple and intuitive manner. We present a user study conducted for evaluating the system on a personal collection of 10,000 digital photos, and report the results. The average search time, including time for sketching and browsing the results, is 31.2 seconds. Usability ratings indicate that the interface is easy to use, and useful as a tool for photo retrieval.
