Abstract

In this paper, a novel approach for detection of singular points, the core and delta points, in fingerprint images is proposed. There have been many approaches introduced in the design of feature extraction. Based on orientation field, Firstly, we divide it into blocks to compute the Poincaré Index. Then, the blocks which may have singularities are detected in the block images. Experiment show the present algorithm is robust than the traditional method on poor quality images.
