Abstract

This paper describes the integration of environmental contexts and personal factors for coordinating garments. As a proof of concept, the UFC Mirror (Ubiquitous Fashion Coordination Mirror) has been implemented to coordinate clothing based on garment characteristics such as color and style as well as environmental contexts such as user schedule and weather conditions. The purpose of the UFC Mirror is to find the best clothing selection for each day in terms of time, occasion and place (TOP) and, thus, to reduce mental workload on the user in selecting clothing. An environmentally contextual-focused interface, environmental user interface (EUI), was integrated as a foundation of the UFC mirror to provide appropriate contexts in the selection of clothing. Preliminary results from a user study with 14 participants revealed that the UFC Mirror increased confidence in selecting clothing and reduced mental workload when considering several factors including color, size and style. People have more confidence in choosing clothing when they have integrated information of environmental contexts and personal factors via the UFC Mirror.
