A particular pseudo-random number generator is described that uses the full 31-bit capacity of the registers in the IBM SYSTEM/360 computers. Experience with the generator in obtaining random permutations of sequences is discussed, and results of statistical tests applied to evaluate the generator are given. The generator has been found to be highly satisfactory. An assembler language program of the generator is included.
