Abstract

This paper first identifies the weaknesses of partition-sampling based particle filters when tracking tree-structured articulated objects. It then proposes a novel technique, referred to as particle interpolation, which makes it possible to efficiently track tree-structured articulated objects. The proposed technique is used in the creation of a novel articulated hand contour tracking system with applications in Human Computer Interaction (HCI).
