Sketch templates provide a good example to effectively improve drawing skill through tracing. In this paper, we introduce an interactive system for creating sketch template from realistic pictures. The sketch template creation is formulated as a graph searching problem and a shortest closed-path algorithm is designed to handle closed stroke. During the creation process, optimized contours are generated with instant feedbacks so that the sketch template can be iteratively updated. The experimental results show that our system can produce pleasing sketches which will facilitate interactive tracing applications.
