This paper gives an overview of recent projects done at Fraunhofer IAO which take innovative approaches to the use of non-speech audio in human-computer interfaces. The examples illustrate the benefits that nonspeech sound - alone and in combination with other modalities - can provide for supporting an effective interaction.
