Abstract

This paper presents an interoperability architecture that allows different educational institutions to share their learning object repositories, in order to create courses using Learning Management Systems (LMS). The initiative is in line with a current trend in educational institutions to produce learning objects and make them freely available through open web repositories. The proposed mechanism is based on Peer-to-Peer architecture, in which each institution is a peer. This paper details the two main components of the architecture, plug-in, for LMS-like systems, and Mediation Layer. Some implementation issues are also discussed.
