Abstract

This paper presents the use of the improved harmony search method for solving economic load dispatch problems. The harmony search method mimics a jazz improvisation process by musicians in order to seek a fantastic state of harmony. To assess the searching performance of the proposed method, a six-unit thermal generating system acquired from the standard IEEE 30-bus test system was challenged. Satisfactory results obtained from the proposed method were compared to those obtained by genetic algorithms, evolutionary programming, adaptive tabu search and particle swarm. Also, effects of valve-point loading units were included and discussed.
