In this work, we propose an energy-aware wireless sensor MAC protocol for delay-sensitive data transmission. Since energy consumption and delay greatly depend on Channel Monitoring Period and data sensing period at each sensor node, we propose a new preamble structure and a Channel Monitoring Period selection algorithm pursuing an effective tradeoff between energy consumption and delay with a low computational complexity. Finally, experimental results are provided to compare the proposed MAC protocol with existing sensor network MAC protocols.
