With the popularization of computers and the Internet, problems of accessibility on the Web pages have gained relevance, since texts are the media content mainly available on the Web sites. This paper describes a Web authoring system, named Simplifica, which automatically generates simplified texts at the syntactic level for low-literacy readers. The syntactic simplification system used in Simplifica is described, with focus in the interface design and accessibility issues. We have followed the universal design approach in order that Simplifica can also be used by authors of Web content with visual disabilities, for example. Aspects of usability and accessibility are presented together with the various scenarios of the use of the first authoring system that automatically generates simplified texts for Brazilian Portuguese.
