Abstract

In this work we attempt a mathematical description of the process of mathematical modelling by representing its main stages as fuzzy sets in the set of the linguistic labels of negligible, low intermediate, high and complete success respectively by students in each stage of the modelling process. We also use the total possibilistic uncertainty as a measurement tool for the degree of success of the model building efforts of students. A classroom experiment is also presented, illustrating the use of our fuzzy model in practice.
