In this paper, we are concerned with the optimum cluster size in Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks. Due to the sparse deployment and channel property, the clustering characteristics of Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks are different from those of terrestrial sensor networks. We show that the optimum cluster size is mainly determined by the working frequency of the acoustic transmission. In addition, the data aggregation also plays an important role in determining the optimum cluster size.
